So, I bought 2x 290X cards, and I'm looking for a way to properly cool them. I've looked into the Accelero, but those are too long and don't adequately cool the VRMs, The Gelid Icyvision is short enough, but it takes up too many slots for it to fit in crossfire configuration.

At this point, my current thoughts are:
- 2x red mod (Thermaltake Water2.0 coolers)
- 2x Alpenfohn heatsinks (or some Enzotechs)

I also have a spot for a 120mm on the side of the case which is right over the VRMs where I planned to put a 190CFM fan, which should move plenty of air to keep the VRMs, with the heatsinks, cool.

I'd prefer to stay air as it's cheaper, but if red mods are the only way to go, that might be my solution.

For reference I have this (http://i.imgur.com/NyLS7Rr.jpg) motherboard, which is why the Gelid won't work.
 
I'm interested in how the red mod works out with these cards.

I think you would be better off just to go full water on them than half a$$ Thermaltake crap
good ek or koolance full cover blocks as much rad as you can fit and a good d5 pump reservoir combo

That's another option, but it'd be far more expensive. That is, in itself, a near $400 project. I honestly don't know what I'd need for that, in its entirety, either.

Pump/rad can and will be external mounted.
 
I mean, tbh, the reason I was going to go with CLCs in the first place is because I don't know the first thing about custom watercooling.
 
I can strap a waterblock onto the card, I just need to know exactly what else I'll need.

Tubing? Best rad/pump combo? Fittings?
 
I was just talking about strapping a CLC to the card and gluing a bunch of heatsinks onto it. I don't care about warranty.

If you don't care about warranty butcher the stock heatsink so that you can use it to cool the vrms and maybe memory. Also make sure that they get good airflow. These chips suck a lot of juice and I'm sure that with a low gpu temp that you'll be tempted to overclock.

You could also wait for swiftech to release a uni-sink and mod one of those to work with a clc cooler.
 
You probably should have waited waited for AIB cooling solutions. In general you will probably need 70% fan speed to keep your cards @ 1Ghz running in CFX. You could do the red mod, but you will need to keep you vrm/memory plate and stock fan installed in order to cool the vrms.
 
Meh, maybe I'll just crank the stock fans up to 100%, or make a custom fan profile.

I don't think that would work with these coolers. Check out the cooler in the TPU review you'll see why.
