I just put a COOLER MASTER GeminII that I got for 7 bucks in gremil ii in and it droped my E6550 from 28C to 22C. Is anyone running cooler than 22 with just air cooling?

Very nice temps, the thing looks like a beast! :)

Just out of curiosity, what are you using to measure the temps?

do you live in the arctic or something? those are amazing temps...they must be inaccurate...

Hate to burst your bubble, but those temps are most likely very wrong or your cpu is in a sleep mode.

The Gemini II is not that great of a cooler so there is no way it could drop your temps down that low.

how are you getting such amazing temps?

Been using the GeminII with 2x 2200RPM Yate Loon's @88CFM and I can't even come close with my E6600. = /

Quite honestly, my old Hyper 6+ did a better job, but I'm willing to sacrifice a few degrees to cool more real estate.

These are idle temps...

My E4300 (@2.4GHz currently) idles 24 or less. On the stock cooler. In the Lanbox.

no, it doesn't
On the contrary, yes it does. And that's the CPU temperature. The core measurements are lower... for whatever reason.

Maybe it has something with my computer being on the floor. And the room being a front large front room, with a large glass window. And it being an average of 10'C outside.

Windows are closed though (sometimes opened..., but only if I'm priming). I'll prime 55'C @ 2.7GHz. No pictures though.

In a cool ambient temp of like 55F, my proc idles around 16-17c

x2 4200, 65w, AC Freezer Pro... Antec 900

Haha, speed-fan just read 15c :D

er... 14c...

14c.jpg

First core is my CPU, 2nd is GPU... Speedfan only gets 1 core for some reason

I see no reason for a watercooling setup, when a $20 Air heatsink does that. :)

im running a thermaltake sonic tower with opional 120mm fan on a e6400 overclocked to 3.440mhz and i get 19,c idle most days.

I don't know about other people, but I find Speedfan and Coretemp read the same temperatures.

And I definitely have the right TJunction temperature.

I use Core temp but Speedfan and asus probe II tell me the same temp they could all be wrong I guess. Core temp was saying 17c this morning because the room was really cold it could be wrong but all three Core temp, Speedfan, and Probe II would have to be wrong as well.

When I get off of work I'll check the bios and see what they say. I have 2 Roswell fans on the CPU cooler about 70 CMF from them, and then 3 fans in the front blowing in 2 fans on the back blowing out and a fan on the top blowing down right on the ram and cpu.

Most of the people claiming 19c or whatever don't seem to understand the physics of air cooling.

If your room is 10c, quite cold by most peoples standards then you're gonna to really struggle to get temps that cool. A good baseline for this would be the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro, which has a rating of .17c/w under the best conditions (i.e. max fan speed etc.).

With a stock core 2 e6600 with a TDP of 65w the lowest possible temps would be 21.05c.

So Blazestorm, you must either have a very cold room (near freezing point) to have a temp of 14c or the readings are wrong. And that's ignoring the fact the air temp within the case will likely be higher than that in the room.

It's pretty damn cold... it's near 5-6c outside with the window open all the way, computer is next to the window...

I have to wear a hoodie and have blankets by my feet, otherwise it gets too cold for my fingers to even type :p

And wouldn't .17 c/w for a 65w proc be 11c? Or do I not understand the ratio... Maybe the other core is more accurate? Speedfan doesn't read that one... unless it has a different label than Core...

Hmmm Coretemp shows the other core at 10c more than the other one... it's at 18c and 28c for the other core right now...

ok if thats the case then its probably accurate. if you are like any other normal computer user, then the temps are inaccurate.

Well, it's possible at those ambient temps. What I mean is with a heat dissipation of 17c/w, a wattage of 65w and an ambient of 10c there will be at least an 11.05c increase in temp compared to ambient (21.05c)

Coolest air temps will always be when you reach over and take the side panel off ,while you gaming .We do it ,everybody does it .

You are using an E4300 and testing with speedfan? I believe you will get CPU readings 15C lower than what is accurate. Try Intel TAT, I'm betting the readings will be about 15C higher.

If hes lapped and AS5'd I could see those temps POSSIBLY happening..
But as with everyone else, somethin just doesnt sound right..

Try and check the temps from you BIOS on a reboot..See if they hover around the same area..

I have a GeminII (lapped) w/ two 120mm 2000RPM fans (79cfm),

My temp is pretty average at 37C (ambient temp in my room is 78F (25.5C)). I live in the desert. Q6600 (B3)

The GeminII just looks so damn cool. Free after rebate at Newegg.

At stock speed:

I cut out the 2 cross braces cause I was bored (hard to see between the fan blades)

I don't know if this is off topic or not, because adding and subtracting 15c was mentioned. If it is I apologize.
My question is : if your cpu is a Tjunction 100c and you're using, say, Core Temp 0.94 and it says 85c for the Tjunction do you add 15c or subtract 15c to get a reference cpu temp? (common sense is adding, no cpu , even one in a artic snow storm, has an ambient temp that would show a negative cpu temp with simple air cooling) I say reference temp because I've read many times there is no 100% accurate cpu temperature software

Edit: Man, I just saw the picture of the Gemin11 in the previous post. It even looks cool especially with 2x 120mm fans (looks like I'm into echoing, the person before me said about the same thing)

I know with my E6600 in my Air box I get 22C on both cores with the top off and 2c more with the top put back on. Im sure if I lapped the cpu and cooler it might get a little lower.

For a serious tweeker, I couldn;t really recommend the GeminII only because once it's in, it's a PAIN to continue to work on it. It's just so damn huge. Hell, even adding or swapping memory is has become a 20 minute endeavor now.

When friends come over though, I love showing it to them.

I get 25 C with my gemmini 2 its so friggen big..though..

It practically touches my back 120mm fan and the DVD rom drives...

You can't get colder than your ambient room temp on air cooling.

Second, to get a true idea of temps, start at ambient, take the thermal resistance by the wattage of your CPU and add that to the ambient. That's what your cpu should be around in temp.

The ambient in my room is around 26C, I have a fully loaded CPU with around 160W of heat to dissipate, My thermalright ultra extreme is around the 0.2C/W rating (thermalright doesn't advertise it's resistance, but given it's performance it's close to there or lower). That gives me around 32C which totals 58C...

low and behold, Everest and Asus Probe II both indicate temps of the core in that range. If you grab a thermal infrared probe and try to get a reading around the heatsink base you will find it to be much higher than room ambient for sure.

Man, that looks pretty accurate.
Please Slade can you make the example a little easier to apply. Remember, not all of us are in the "rocket scientist" of intelligence. For us "dumbys" (like me) could you please explain it simpler?

Edit: I have 1x machine WC'ed (Apogee, MCP350, MCR220, 3/8th tubes), 2x machines Zalman 9700's and 1x machine Big Typhoon with a custom fan and I'd sure like to get an approximate of my cpus temps . (all but the TT BT folding 24/7, Oh yeah, the MCP350 is unmodded)

not sure why every says he needs to add 15'C to his temps. my e6320 @ 3.16 ghz idles around 34'C, measuring using Core Temp! plus my cooler is average at best, my cable management is non existent and ventilation consists of only two low noise 80mm fans that barely push any air. if i had better cooling and ventilation i can easily see my temps going down to 25'C. sounds to me like some people are just jealous of his low temps.;)
