Coolermaster warranty issue

I purchased a Coolermaster RP-650-PCAR from a local computer shop in late 2008. Within the year, the 120 mm down-facing fan was making a clacking noise (people who played online games with me called it a cheese grater). So, I went through Coolermaster's eRMA process, which wasn't a bad process, given an RMA code and proceeded to send it in. When I got back from vacation, imagine my surprise to receive a 460W PSU from the warranty department. The eRMA process indicates that the inspected unit was a RS-460-PMSR-A3, a model that doesn't even have a downfacing 120 mm fan on it...

If the unit I had submitted didn't have the down-facing fan, then I wouldn't have been submitting the PSU for warranty repair as the fan wouldn't have been defective — because it wouldn't have been there in the first place.

Anyone else have a wrong inspection report from Coolermaster?

Did you take a photo of it before you submitted it?

You joined here today and this is your first post? ;)

Unfortunately, no. I didn't believe that someone could mis-identify the unit. Both the dealer and I have the serial number.

If the unit I sent in didn't have a defective 120 mm fan then they should have returned my non-defective unit, no?

EDIT: This is my third login to Hard. I have two logins tied to email accounts that don't exist any more...

Not necessarily. Maybe there was a recall or another something that didn't meet QC.

8. RMA Closing Procedure

...

Only the specific items listed on the RMA Request Form will be accepted. All other items will be returned to the customer at customer’s expense.

...

Coolermaster's own stated protocol should have been to return my PSU if it didn't match the RMA.

Final Resolution: Coolermaster sent out a new PSU.
