So I have a Coolermaster Cavalier and I want to paint the inside semi flat black. I know all the procedures and stuff, I have a fair amount of experience with this type of painting. However, I was looking at my case, and the first problem I have is the million rivets that hold this thing together. That isn't a big deal, I can tape off some areas and drill others out if I need to. The real problem is the HD and 5.25 cages, I'm going to have to disassemble the toolless levers and paint them, which of course they are held on by rivets too. People with Coolermaster cases like this, how have you solved this?

Actually, it's easy. There's 4 rivits in the front of the bay, 4 in the bottom, and none in the top. Just drill them, slide it out. The bays are clip on, slide the slider forward, press the metal bits in, and then slide it all the way back. The inserts, easy to remove once the bay is out. You'll see what I mean, one piece of metal to bend a bit, and it slides out. Be careful, it's sharp.
 
Leave it alone, I like the contrast of the silver and the black. If you make it all black on the inside you won't be able to see well the other parts.

BS my v1000b is blacked out on the inside(even useing a black mobo and vid card) you can see everything thats in there
 
I say go for it!
As Bbq said, getting the drive rails off is easy once you work it out. The metal slide part under the plastic bits rotate up from a little clip and then simply pull off.

If it was the shiney aluminum that some cases come with, I would leave it. But it is the ugly primer colored gray. I think it would look great painted black.

Thanks for the tips on removing the sliders. However, I'm still worried that the off white colored sliders would look a little weird on the black metal. I'm not sure, it could look ok because of the contrast.
 
I would maybe leave them out anyway and use screws. I don't like using the tooless but thats just me.
 
It won't be a problem. I undid the sliders on mine, put some tape on the back, taped it onto some cardboard, few coats of grey primer, and then the glossy white. It looks a lot better than stock beige. I prefer it to painting the whole thing black. Try it.
 
Vinyl Dye is your friend. I'm in the middle of doing a Centurion 534, just dyed the sliders and they look great, I just need to get a chance to paint the case itself.

Drilling out the rivets is definately worthwhile as it makes getting at all the internal parts easier.
 
check out my charlie murphy project... i haven't updated it in a while but updates are coming. The tooless lever things are super easy to take off. let me know if you need help doing them ( and by the way to take off the tooless things, you do NOT need to drill out any rivets)

lighting is weird but this is flat black with the tooless things removed...

no prob - i've illustrated below how to take those things off...

just stick a small screwdriver where the green arrows are and slightly pry up the grey plastic things enough to clear them over those notches and slide them out towards the back of the case.

for the metal things, just wiggle them down and out and they'll fall right out.
 
I couldn't stand the toolless sliders on my Cavalier so I just took them off and painted the inside silver. I don't move drives around often at all so screws do just fine for me.

So I take it you modded that window out of a Cavalier that didn't come with one? Because mine looks like this...

Yeah one of the first things I did when I got the case was cut the window out. It's definately nice and big.

Nice job on the silver paint job, it looks really natural. Have you replaced the front intake fan yet? I want to replace it but I think it requires removing the entire front panel.
 
You guys have some nice cavaliers there. So what if you have to remove the entire front panel, take the effort and time to do it the way you want to and you will be glad you did.

Removing the front panel is necessary, but surprisingly easy. I think there are just 3 screws on each side plus the little cone shaped tabs.

I did replace the fan, but I actually cut out the whole mesh part and drilled new mounting holes to fit in a 92mm fan instead of an 80mm.

I also modded my cavvy :D

Cut a big square hole about 1" rear of the drive bays (so you can't see them) on the side panel, about 6" and 3" of clearence on the bottom and top, and about 1" clearence in the back. Smoothed it out, double sided tape, dark red tinted lexan on the outside. It's something different from what we always see.
 
Nope. Remember it's a 3.5" drive bay, and a 120mm fan is a good bit larger than 3.5".

The 92 just barely fits in there.
 
It's possible to fit a 120 there. You have to do extensive cutting, unscrew the lower plate on the bezel (the bottom, which acts like a grille), and give up your lower 3.5 (the case only supports the upper one only) but it's possible.
 
I'll see what I can do once I get it torn apart. I don't use my 3.5 bay anyway.
 
I was really lazy and decided just to paint over the clips in my pc. Of course now they dont really work, but as was illustrated before, I dont really care. Im not going to be swapping drives in and out.
I painted everything glossy navy blue, though white is also another favorite choice of mine for the frame.
