The one I installed is letting a 4ghz i5 hit 90s pretty quick. The whole mounting behind this thing is garbage in my opinion. 3.2ghz @ 1.34V in windows under load it peaks around 82C. When I give the needed voltage for 4ghz it just wont run cool enough. Ive read others having similar problems.
Exact same here,this cooler is great up to 3.8ghz but going to 4 the temps skyrocket into the 90s fast,ive lapped it,reconfigured fans,dual fans on the hyper 212 plus made very little difference in this case..Antec 900 has great airflow no wires blocking air coming in,ive tryed every way I know to apply thermal paste,AS5..Idle temps are good at 32C but load running for 4 ghz its goes crazzzy...I guess I need to look for another cooler if I want 4ghz![]()
if you take a look at the link i posted, that guide recommends TIM application to the heatsink itself rather than the cpu's heatspreader.
just as the guide suggests, i first filled all the grooves between the heatsink base and the heatpipes. i scraped all excess off with the edge of a credit card. this gave me a nice level surface to start off with. then i did the two line method.
i've got my xeon x3440 oc'd to 3.6GHz and after 20 passes of ITB i'm seeing load temps of around 62C. it's important to note that i have a ton of airflow in my cm 690, though. and i'm running a pair of slipstream pwm's in push/pull on my hyper 212+.
