Cooler Master, a leading creator, innovator and manufacturer of desktop components, mobile accessories, and gaming peripherals, today announced the much requested QuickFire Rapid-i, a fully featured and backlit mechanical keyboard. QuickFire Rapid-i builds upon its predecessor’s legacy with full keyboard illumination and unique lighting effects.

Powered by a 32-bit ARM processor, Rapid-i’s ActivLite Technology incorporates 5 lighting modes with 5 brightness levels. Using ActivLite, users find themselves adding a richer aesthetic to their space. One such mode enables the backlighting to brightly illuminate upon each key press and fade softly as your fingers move on to the next key. The effect is a deeply satisfying visual trail to bring a unique effect to your typing experience. ActivLite also allows users to individually program keys for unique game and application uses, while the onboard memory makes it possible to save profiles that store up to four different presets.

interesting.. and i dont see any logo on it.. all black, stylish.. hmm..

Only $649.99...! (j/k)

I'm trying to parse how my keyboard could benefit from being "powered by a 32-bit ARM processor." Does this mean it has up to 32 mechanical ARMs it can deploy when needed to help me type and press other buttons? (Eg, the keyboard senses that my typing has slowed to under 60 WPM and then helps out with its ARMs? But wait, that would mean it would know what I intend to type before I type it! Cool!)

Also, the 5 lighting modes with 5 brightness levels sounds cool--so that's a total of 25 brightness levels if we assume 5 brightness levels for each lighting mode? Like:

*lights out mode (only visible in a dark space)--5 lvls of bright
*slightly visible mode (slightly visible with lights on)--5 lvls of bright
*halfway-visible mode (with lights on)--5 lvls of bright
*clearly visible mode (with lights on)--5 lvls of bright
*Blindingly bright mode (lights on or off)--5 lvls of bright

This looks great, too:

*"Brings a deeply satisfying visible trail to your mind-boggling typing experience."

Wow! (Is that like LSD-induced trails in broad daylight? Groovy, man.)

What will they think of next? This is too much!

The mechanical keyboard offerings from Monoprice are better and also Corsair refurbs on their keyboards are cheaper.

I totally dig this board. Micro USB is a huge upgrade from shitty mini.

I already have two (Cherry Blue) QuickFire's and I see I'll be owning a third. They're fantastic.

Who is building this for Cooler Master?
The original Rapid is built by Costar and is an absolute tank. I'm really hoping this new one is also built by Costar.

Love my original QFR with Blue switches, and QuickFire Stealth with Greens that replaced it. I'd only consider this if it came with Green switches though. Having gone to those I really do prefer them over Blues. Both have been phenomenal keyboards and look great too as neither has gaudy logos.

hmm, one things that got me interested on this was the "with its super-slim body" written on that announcement page.. it doesnt look "super-slim" at all on those newegg pictures.. :(

Red. I believe it's a Cherry Red switch. I have one being delivered today to test, so I'll pop off a key and take a pic!

Weird. I'd be interested as we'll except that it doesn't list the type of switch used nor does it even give you a switch option.

SGK-4040-GKCL1(Blue switch)
SGK-4040-GKCM1(Brown switch)
SGK-4040-GKCR1(Red switch)

so newegg link has browns.

That's a nice looking keyboard, I just got the regular QFR TK few weeks ago.
But for 150 bucks I'd just go towards WADS k/b fully customizable route.

True! If you zoom in on the picture of the package, it denotes that it's the brown version.

They are indeed browns, and it's just as good to type on as any brown keyboard with the quality being perhaps slightly better than the normal non-backlit version. There appears to be a different coating that feels good on the fingers, and feels as if it'll resist fingerprints a bit more. The lighting up after each key-press is more a novelty than anything, but it's certainly quite fun to watch as you type!

hmm i think this is it, i think i just found my new keyboard, i'll take one with reds please, thanks Kai! :)

They would have to pry my Quickfire Rapid TK Greens from my old dead fingers first. I can't live without the numpad in a TKL form factor.

How's this stack up against something like a Ducky Shine 3? Anyone do that comparison yet?

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd revive it to offer my impressions after a day with it.

One word: AVOID!

There's some kind of bug that prevents it from working after the PC wakes up from sleep mode. It either doesn't work at all or you get results like below when trying to type:

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

oooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I checked Newegg reviews and Cooler Master's tech support (should'a done so before buying). This is a well known problem. Only way to fix it is to unplug/re-plug the USB cable. Cooler Master hasn't come up with a solution and there's no indication when or even if to expect one.

RMA already approved. Too bad, 'cuz I had high hopes for this keyboard. :(

well im using this kb for a few months (w/ reds) and mine works like a boss, but my gaming pc never sleeps, it is on or off.
