Whats the best heatsink/fan for a Q6600? Ultra 120-extreme? Or is there something better as far as heatsinks go?

Swiftech Apogee GTX + Nautilus 500.:D
Minimal investment, watercools the CPU and I just extended it to one of my 8800s and it didnt miss a beat.

I'm not ready for that minimal investment. I'm in the process of getting another job and moving to the desert and I don't want the heat to be abusing my CPU since the stock coolers for the Q6600s stink. I get 70C loads as is with good case flow from 4 120mm fans as well as clean cable management. My CPU is concaved to and the stock mounting is hard as hell to get on since I kinda broke it doing it the first time. I'm afraid if I take off the heatsink again I wont beable to get it on again since its so screwed up. I mine as well just buy another heatsink.

If you're not into overclocking, then something like the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro would be fine, or if you want something beefier/quieter then the Ultima 90 + something quiet would probably work.

..and yeah I've broken two Intel stock coolers already, those things are impossible to get on. -_-

I'm looking to overclock. I'm just not ready to switch to water cooling yet. Quietness isn't a problem either. I got 4 120mm fans that run full speed plus the other misc. fans. Its already loud. I sleep with a huge box fan on full speed. Helps with cutting out the cars going by.

Yeah, I'd go with the Ultra 120 if you're thinking about maxing out your system and the Ultima 90 for anything moderate.

For air cooling the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the best cooler you can get. You'll have to pair it with a decent fan, but trust me it's a damn good cooler that can handle any processor out there today.

It is a little more expensive than most coolers, but well worth it.

I like my Zalman 9700, pretty good cooler, pretty cheap at CompUSA now.

How much better is it then the Thermalright SI-128SE? I've heard it cools very close to the same as the Ultra 120 Extreme, plus it's good for cooling motherboard components as well.

Really? I was there on 24th, saw 9700 for $49.99 + 15% off.

I've read a number of things on the subject. I was trying to find out where I saw the news on their final day of operation being 12/24/2007 but I couldn't. If they aren't totally shut down they soon will be.

No idea. I've never used that one.

So, you think CompUSA is officially done? Kind of sucks, that place was right next to my house, used to go there when I was bored.

Comp USA already announced that they would close at the conclusion of the holiday season. All their remaining 103 stores will be permanently closed. Their assetts have already been sold to a liquidation company.

Well, lets raise our post buttons for compusa and get back on topic. :):D

Is there a trust worthy site to buy it from besides newegg? Their out of them.

Performance PCs, xPC Gear, Cooler Guys, SVC, FrozenCPU, HeatsinkFactory off the top of my head I've used besides NewEgg.

I am going to get one of these for my 6600 as soon as I get some extra money. Heard they were the best.

I did a lot of testing with this cooler for a friend's build and it was great. Make sure to get a decent 120mm fan as quads get very hot.

I'm using the SI-128SE on mine (just installed it last night) and it seems to be doing a very good job so far at stock. I'll have to see how things go once I start overclocking...
