Does anyone know why this might happen? I use rivatuner, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

what system and OS, and drive version are needed. Also what coolbits value are you trying?

Did you disable cpldaemon?

NvCplDaemon - Relates to the Nvidia System Tray icon and related functionality. If you don't use the System Tray icon to access the Forceware Control Panel settings - and it's certainly not necessary - then you can remove this item. Note however that if you're overclocking your graphics card using the Forceware Control Panel (See the Overclocking section) then you need to keep this item in your startup.

abit kn8-sli, AMD x2 3800 at 2.0ghz
evga 7950gt no OC
1gb pc3200
Windows XP home

I set the value at 3 and it seems to change back to 1 randomly, I do disable the system tray icon as well.

what is your forceware (driver) version ?

Ive got the latest nvidia drivers

the actual coolbits registry key seems to change value, kind of odd, im guessing it was related to the taskbar icon since i enabled it and it seems to stay after i restart.
