Hi guys,

I was using MDT to create image files (.wmi) and deploy it to Windows PCs, but need to convert these images to .gho format to use with Ghost. Is it at all possible?

Thanks!

They are not compatible.

WIM files, or Windows Images, is a file based imaging solution. It more resembles a zip file.

Ghost, and most other imaging formats, are disk based imaging solutions. They grab the data bit by bit and stash it in the archive.

There may be some utility out there to convert between the two -- but really - you don't need to convert them to deploy them. You can use a couple of command line tools to deploy WIM images. I don't think converting to GHO would win you anything.

To deploy the WIM, you would just need to format the drive (if you wanted to -- you could keep all of the data on the drive intact) and extract the WIM to the drive. You should be able to deploy it with the same WinPE installation that you created it with.... just a few different commands on ImageX (or whatever the new version of Imagex is called).

^ Agreed.

If you really wanted to go the Ghost route your best bet would be installing with the image than re-capturing/deploying using Ghost Console.
