Converting from 3.2EE to 760 Dothan performance increases?

Just curious what everyone thinks the increase in performance will be. I do plan on Oc'n the snot out of this processor. With any luck eventually to 3.2ghz. My 3.2EE at 3.6 is only throwing down 36.5s superpi scores (really lack luster performance). So what can I expect? Any tips or tricks? I have read about the vdimm, vdroop, and vcore mods. Any other suggestions? I'm going full air with the Zalman 9500.
 
I don't think you will be dissapointed, I wish I had a P4C800, I would love to mess around with some mobile chips right now. Supposedly the dothans can hang with a64's clock for clock.

Thus the reason I am :mad: with the 3.2EE, I tried everything with that cpu and could never get over 222.5 mhz, a lousy 3.56ghz OC ick... Plus the numbers on 1m pi was 36.5 seconds which sucks! I've seen some 22s pi's of some folks oc'n these Dothan's! I'm :D ear to ear waiting on my new chip!!!

That and most people I've seen that have good cooling have gotten over 3.2ghz, which is well in excess of that! What I like most is it is performing at less voltage, less heat, and yet has more power then the P4 and I will get to use the full DDR500 and really push my mobo with this setup vs, being locked in by the 3.2EE limits!

Nope you need the Asus P4GD1 (s478 w/PCIe) or other Asus board to use the C-479 adapter.

They have the best results around, go look over at xtremesystems.org

FYI you don't need the adapter, and yes it will work with any mobo now... the CT-479 was before intel was making socket 478 version of the Dothan. Ok maybe I'm reading it wrong... I'm very confused on this now!

Where to start... I think we sticky some info the "Socket 478 Dothan" confusion.

All Pentium M / Celeron M Dothans and Banias CPUs only work in Socket 479 dispite having being labelled as "Socket 478". That's the short of it. The CPU's physically have 478 pins but are keyed differently from 478 Pentium 4's. They are also incompatible in the pinouts.

I hope that's helped some.

So yes you'll still need a CT-479 with your P4C800-E. xpcgear.com still has the adapters if I'm not mistaken.

That's a weird thing about EE's. They suck at SuperPi for whatever reason. I got 32s with my OC'd 3.2E, then checked it against a work computer with a 3.2EE at work expecting to see similiar results even at stock. 47s :eek:

YEP, a bit WTF!!! I mean a $1,000 processor should sure and hell beat a Dothan! Funny how that is not true!

Thanks Yiffy... Yeah I ordered the adapter late last night... why Intel never plopped that on a regular 478 board with a high FSB, read 1066, and wow what a combo that would have made. Gaming would be insane... I'm hoping to push 300fsb and a 10multi, but we will see, you know how Oc'n goes... 50% skill 50% luck!

anyway, don't expect the Dothan to be overclocked to >3G on air, you need at least phase change coolings.

Well the 2.8 on air was before some of the current heat pipes, so I'm keeping a goal of at least 3ghz, plus I might invest in phase change down the road just for fun! I also think 26s 1M pi is doable at 2.8ish, that knocks off 10s off pi for me switching from my 3.2EE.. and lets be honest... what is 99% of the processing we do, things that are under 30s full load... When besides prime95 do you max your cpu for over 24hrs? Well the CT479 comes today I'm very jazzed to see what I can tweak and geek out of the system this weekend.

Thats weird.....I have my 3.4EE @ 235FSB daily since it came out. Not even one crash. Granted, its on water, but I had it close to that on air before I watercooled it.
