I have a test box that needs to go into production on the Virtual Cluster here at work and it is running on Physical Hardware and it needs to be moved to a ESXi 4 Virtual Server. The Vmware converter will not do a hot conversion of 08 R2.

Has anyone here figured out how to move Windows server 2008 R2 successfully to ESXi 4. I'm researching the topic right now. I just wanted to reach out and see if anybody had a successful solution. I will post my solution if and when I figure it out.

Sorry If my post doesn't make much sense I have 6 different people trying to talk to me right now just ask for clarification if needed.

Look into StorageCraft's ShadowProtect software.
Get a trial of the IT Edition, image, HIR restore in the VM. And your done :D

I am having a similar problem now moving a 2008 R2 VM to another VM server using Vmware Converter 4.0.1. The only thing I have found so far is that it may have something to do with the recovery partition R2 sets up. I may just end up doing an acronis of the VM and then using Converter that way.

Here is the thread I found on VMWare forums: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/195901?tstart=450

It because of the that goofy recovery partition that R2 uses. I know my experiment of using ghost yesterday didn't work. But if that works let me know.
