I want to convert my antec psu to a standalone psu. Besides shorting out the green wire with ground, is there anything else I would need to do? Can i safely run the psu without a load for an extended period?

as long as you have the wire shorted and the ac in, you should be fine.

As to the poster above, i think this is what you meant to link? http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=161&products_id=20429

Pretty sweet, and they also got a 250W SLI one you can add in for $50, might of just solved my problem when i get my 2nd videocard.

What he meant to link I believe is this: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3163

As for the OP....what exactly are you trying to do?

Its not a good idea to run a supply with no load on the 5v line.
This is the line thats used as a reference for all the other voltages and under no load can cause the others to run out of spec.
If you have an old hard drive/ cd rom drive that works then just use that.
That will give you enough load on the 5v line to keep the others in spec.

Luck .......... :D
