I have decided to not install iTunes on my new i7 Windows 7 build (I hate Bonjour and the Qtask and auto updates Etc). I have hundreds of apple format songs with DRM that I bought. I want to convert them all to MP3.
What is the prefered software for use in WIndows 7 to convert from Apple DRM laden files to DRM free MP3.
Amersoft Media Converter seems to have a lot of fans. Does it play nice with WIndows 7? What other programs are recommended? I do not care if it is not free.
Any other suggestions or pitfalls I should look out for?

I can't offer any advice on software but there is a pretty obvious pitfall here. Transcoding from one lossy format (and not a very good one) to another is going to result in rather unremarkable audio quality.

There's an application designed to strip out the FairPlay DRM, but it can't be mentioned here. Then, you can use foobar2000 or dBpowerAmp (or a myriad of others) to convert from AAC to MP3.

Unlike AAC, however, MP3 is not very resilient with respect to minimizing artifacts resulting from transcoding.

Thanks for the comments so far.
I know that MP3 is lossy but this is just for basic library music that I bought for play in the car Etc. The good stuff that I treasure is not MP3.
I know that there are some legal programs that do it I am just wondering what the better ones are.

dBPoweramp is pretty good, though the steps that you have to go through to get multiple folders transcoded leaves a bit to be desired. I haven't tried the transcoder for Foobar yet, but if it works, then there's no reason not to use that. You get a kickass media player as well.
