Convert existing storage drive to RAID 1

I'm using a Crosshair V Formula with the AMD SB950 controller.

The system drive is a 128MB SSD with a 3 TB secondary drive that I run all my applications from. (I'll be replacing the SSD with a 500gb SSD but that's another story) What I would like to do is add a second 3TB drive and run both drives in RAID 1. The catch is that I want to retain all the data on the 3TB drive and simply add the second drive for redundancy.

Does anyone know if this is possible with the SB950 controller?

Remember that even if you do that you will still need a backup. RAID1 is in no way as good as a backup.

You will probably need a 3rd disk for that. I would get an external and use this for as a backup after the RAID1 conversion.

Thanks for replying.

I have all the critical stuff backed up to my external drive (320GB) but I think to do a complete backup on the 3TB drive I'm just over my 320GB space budget.

I'll probably have to wait until I get a larger external drive.
