Controller issues and Madden '07

I'm trying to play Madden with a hacked Xbox S controller plugged in via USB. I'm using hte latest driver. Everything works fine until I try to assign an action to the trigger keys (buttons 11 and 12). The game crashes back to desktop. This controller works great for every other game I've tried but madden crashes for some reason. My question is has anyone tried playing '07 with an Xbox 360 controller and did you have any problems assigning buttons? I'm using Vista Ultimate BTW
 
I tried the hacked Xbox controller for a while and it was, eh, just okay. Have not tried the 360 controller (wired or wireless).

I spend $20 and bought a Logitech dual action just for sports games on the PC. It has been a fantastic controller. Highly recommended
