Hitachi recently demonstrated its new technology that allows you to control a toy train with the powers of your mind. Rumor has it the next step is getting it to stop at the fridge for beer before coming back.

The device is based on a special cap that uses infrared light to monitor blood flow in the brain – technology known as optical topography. By mapping the output of many sensors, the cap can sense when different parts of the brain are active.

Atari had done R&D on this very same type of product and It only reached the reached the Prototype stage and was just the same in usage, As others have said "I'd rather push a button". At the time Atari was owned by Time Warner of course, So It's been a long time. :D

Just imagine if in the future they could strap something to your head and read your thoughts. I could see it now "Oh man they're reading my mind. Um think of something not weird. -weird thoughts- ..." and then start singing a song in their head.

But really, this has the potential to be a universal input device. Instead of having the myriad of gears, levers, buttons, etc. of some devices. It could be controlled by one thing. Although, it would require much more training to use.
