Control computer music throughout house

Hello Hard Forum

I am wanting to set up my house with the ability to have my numerous sound systems all be able to play music simultaneously from my computer, and then have what my computer is playing be controlled by several lcd terminal's that would be placed throughout the house (probably 5) and linked to the computer by wifi or ethernet whatever the case may be.

Getting them to all play the same thing shouldn't be any trouble, just picking up one of these

Where the problem lies is how would I control what my computer plays when i am upstairs and the computer is downstairs? Currently i am thinking that the best solution would be to pick up a few ipod touches and make an application that would show what song is currently playing and give a few options like next back and possibly rock mode or pop mode. Also having it like that would give me the ability to change what is playing when i am out of the country, don't know why that seems appealing, but it does :). Anyhoo i was hoping to bounce some ideas off you guys and see what has been done in this regard so i don't repeat a bunch of stuff that has already been done.
