I have a Motorola V186 that I wanted to add my own ringtones to from my computer. Seems Motorola or somebody want me to download their ringtones and pay several dollars for each one instead. V186 has a USB connector on it so I found the some cord for my digita camers fits. The computer recognizes that a V186 is there but there is no driver in XP so it just sits there. Is ther a good program preferably free that you can use to communicate from cell phone to computer?

Motorola Phone Tools works on the V186.

It’s just too easy if you’ve got the $34.99 and a USB to mini/USB cable. Multimedia Studio, file transfer, backup/restore, sync ect.

I use Audacity to make a ringtone out of anything that can play across my computer, cut it into a 30 second clip, save it as an mp3 then use MPT to transfer the file.

One caveat, some Carriers disable Multimedia Studio in their phones. You’ll need to do a search to find out if yours is enabled. For example, on a Sprint V3m, I spent hours using a seem editor to get MS to work only to find the next phone update enabled it. Maybe you’ll get lucky.

You can search for more phone/Carrier info here;

Did not know Motorola Phone Tools worked as it does not give much description on Motorola website and would not want to fork out 35$ for a non-useable application. I was hoping for a cheaper way, but might try it anyways. The same cable that comes with my digital camera is the cable needed, usb to mini usb.

I was fooling around with my phone a couple of weeks ago and there on the menu is a way to compose your own ringtones, but there is no instruction in the manual, nor can I find any instructions anywhere.
