Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a contrast amplifier available for purchase?

I've been trying to find something that would increase my CRT pc monitors contrast level, because when playing the xbox360 via vga i have the contrast maxed at 100, but need more.

If anyone has any info on such a product, it would be much appreciated.

If you have a nvidia card or ati with the catalyst software you can adjust it within the display properties if you go to advanced and then nvidia, or through the catalyst control panel.

Ya that is a nice feature for pc video cards, but unfortunetely the xbox360 will not work with it and has no adjustments itself, so the only option is the monitors onboard controls.

I can tell you how to increase contrast, if i'm not mistaken you have an FW900 correct? What you need to do is buy an interface cable such as the one being sold at this site. http://geocities.com/emusicraft/ (you can also build one yourself but hunting down the parts and assembling it looks like a pain the bum)

That will enable DDC communication between the monitor and your pc and allow you to use the Sony DAS software to access and change all the hidden factory settings. More info here and here.

Most people use DAS to fix the infamous Trinitron overbrightness problem but it can do FAR more than that. I've been meaning to post more about it in the FW900 thread but since i'm still in the process of learning what it all does i haven't bothered yet. (it is somewhat complex)

But anyway there is a variable called DRIVE-MAX (or something like that) which was set to 210 on my FW900. I increased it to 255 and now the contrast is MUCH higher than it was previously. There is also drive settings for each color gun, i haven't messed with those yet but i'm pretty sure they effect contrast as well. AND there is also a "white balance procedure" which is for hardware color recalibration but also includes brightness, contrast and image restore calibration as well. I plan to mess around with that as soon as the colorimeter i bought on ebay gets here.

Excellent information! I'll look more into it, and please keep me posted on what you find.
