Federal agents caught a man working for the company that processes Disney Movie Club transactions attempting to sell client’s private information.

The employee did not work for Disney, but rather for Alta Resources Inc., which processes transactions and fulfills orders for the Disney Movie Club, the letter said. The employee has been dismissed and the Secret Service is continuing to investigate, according to Disney.

Seriously, what goes through peoples minds when they do this?

well.. the first thoughts are usual'y along the lines of... "I'm in charge of so much valuable personal information management...I have little to no oversight on me... I wish Disney could pay me more..." ... justified or not, and by my interpretation, no matter how much you hate the employer, you cant just fuck over thousands of ppl with identity theft and fuel every organization trying to make money off white-collar crime just because you're employer doesn't care about neither your wage and/or the security of their clients personal info...

lesson here?... #1 trust no-one with your personal info, #2 report your credit card missing atleast once a year, and last but not least #3 don't buy Disney ... for far more reasons than just limited info security, but I wont turn this into a taking-credit-for-other-peoples-work, pixar-killing, sweatshop-owning, child-labor-promoting, stock-holder-robbing, tyrannical-CEO-empowering, rant here..

Disney sent out a nice letter last week, Thursday or Wednesday (forgot which) I received it; said MY information was one of the ones that was on the list that he sold to the Secret Service.

Went on to say that he may have sold that information previously to nefarious folks. Been thinking about a lawyer; after all, Alta's bad security practices let him pilfer the list, and I'm the one who may end up being pooched. It's about time someone started Class Action lawsuits against companies after this kind of incident; it would make them suddenly treat this kind of information a lot more carefully.
