Continuous Filtering

So I'm working on a loop rebuild to fix a stupidity of mine (alum rad..) and with the addition of a new/used rad, a cleaned but still unperfect batch of blocks, and a rez that was impossible to thoroughly clean, I wanted to let the system run filtered as part of the leak testing phase. We'll I've used these fuel filters for a fuel injected Cannondale dirtbike for years and they've held up like champs. Now that I'm done with the testing phase, I'm tempted to leave it in permanently.

Here's a quick shot of the filter just throwin in the loop.

It's paper based and filters extremely well. Don't judge the orientatoin as if it does end up staying, I'll redo the location to be more functional and easy to change.

What do ya'll think? Yank it or keep it?

And no the wiring is far from done. As you can see, not even the Vid Cards are powered yet.

Shot of a spare filter, same type.

I've tested these upto 50psi in short bursts so not worried about the pressure causing critical failures.

Why do you have a filter in there again? Also, I'm guessing it's killing your flow.

I've got dual DDC's pushing the system, one for the blocks, and one for the 15ft away rad. The vid blocks are three MCW82's in parallel with a raza for cpu so flow "should" not be an issue. More then likely it would end up on the rez loop so one DDC pushing just a 4x120 rad and a filter again "should" not be an issue.

Other then flow, do you guys see a problem? (granted flow may be an issue)

And the filter idea is just to keep an eye on the system, plus give a little bit of protection incase I didn't get all the crap cleaned out.

I say ditch it... you should seriously not have any debris large enogh in your loop that requires a filter (I know you mentioned them not being new) but not only is the paper affecting the overall flow, the reduction in size of the tubing for the inlet and outlet of the filter are hurting you as well.

If you are asking us whether the benefit of having the filter, outweighs the flow loss, the answer is certainly no.

If you have dual DDCs it should be fine then. You're supposed to flush before you plumb, so there shouldn't be shit in your loop to begin with! :p

Wait... what's the ID of the connections on that filter? Looks incredibly tiny!

I flushed, and flushed and still wasn't happy so I filtered. After a little while I saw bits of crap show up so I let it continue for a day or so.

The ID is quite small, I'll guess at 1/4" but will check shortly. You have me curious now. A couple of these in parallel should help lessen the restriction a good bit though, hmm..

I dunno, I guess as long as you are happy with your temps and whatnot, then it probably doesn't really matter. It kinda gives it an industrial or automotive look to it all.

took it out of the loop as I didn't see an additional trash showing up. Did it's job at least though. Loop is being leak tested tonight.
