I dont know how it should be done but i think it would be really cool if someone could like get donations and have like a monthly giveaway or something like a raffle i think it would be cool how about u guys?

Contests have happened here from time to time. If you wanted to personally set one up, you have to mail Kyle and get his pre-approval before posting anything about it.

I doubt a raffle would go over well unless it was tied to some type of charity.

well i have no way of setting it up but on 3dgameman's site he has a monthly giveaway and its pretty cool its norm a item he reiviews each month.

It used to happen here, but ungrateful kids ruined it for the most part. Too many people bitched and it was a pain to keep up. At least, that's what I remember Kyle and one other guy saying.

If contests are sanctioned by the [H], that puts it in the path of lawsuits if anyone gets their panties in a bunch. Kyle has sanctioned some in the past, but they are very few and far between, you can check with him, but don't get your hopes up too high.

Actually, the Distributed computing section often had contests and rewards for those who did make a big contribution, including titles for the [H]ard|DCer of the month (look at mine) which is voted each month among those who made a signifiant contribution.

We are trying to create a new contest shortly with some prizes and we are now trying to tie the strings together first.

The reason that contests work in that forum is because it is restricted to folders, not general forum participation. It's the same rationale that allows you to operate your own FS/T forum.....some things will not run as smoothly elsewhere.
