Has anyone been able to get the console to work on XP 64? The console will load up and download the file but never starts folding. Just looking for any suggestions or even if it will work or not. I can get the graphic version to run on XP64 so running that right now but have read that you cannot run 2 instances of the graphic version at the same time. I have not tried to yet because this is my main computer and really dont' want to crash it and take a chance of messing something up.

I have 4 instances of it running on my workstation, do you have any 32 bit versions of xp with the same network configs that are running correctly?

Yes I have another computer running the console on winxp pro. But I just set that computer up tonight. I ended up having to download the 5.02 version to get it running. I first tried the 5.04 beta console which I was trying to set up on this computer this weekend. I couldn't get it to work on the other computer either. Was starting to think I was doing something wrong. But now that I have that computer running properly I going to download the 5.02 version for this computer and give it a try once I am done processing the current WU under the graphic client.
I am suppose to be done with the current WU Monday at 2005 EST. So will probally have more questions tomorrow night when I go back to trying to set up the console. I want to run 2 instances on this computer.
Guess this is what I get for accidently clicking on the wrong link in the forums. Was suppose to be going to general gaming. But I did learn about folding and now I am working on making my gaming computer also a folding computer for when it is just sitting there.

EDIT - Just thought of another question. Is the console a very stable program?. Reason I am asking is because the other computer that I set up the console on is my daughters computer. She uses it for doing research and writing papers for school. She also games on it, but my biggest concern is I don't want it crashing her computer if she is working on school work. So if it does have a tendancy to cause crashes I want to get it off her computer. If it doesn't, well then I will probally set up my other daughters computer to fold too.

welcome to the [H]orde!

f@h does not cause your computer to become unstable. Not at all.

Running the console shouldn't cause any problems at all.

After you turn in some work units, go get yourself a badge like this one:

Well I finished my first WU. I uninstalled the graphic client and cleaned the registry. Then I set up 2 folders with the console version. I have both instances up and running now. But, yep you guessed it, another question, How do I hide the console tabs from the task bar. I have Electron Microscope running to monitor the consoles so really don't want to see the console tabs in the task bar. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Set up the consoles to run as services. They start on startup invisibly, stay running even when the user is logged out, and EMIII still does its magic. ;)

You set up the consoles to run as a service by running the console exe with the -configonly flag.. I'm not sure if the 5.02 version has this feature, but 5.03 and 5.04 have it, so I imagine 5.02 would too..

(note: To run the console with -configonly, you can goto Start-Menu->Run..
type "C:\path\filename.exe -configonly", where path\filename.exe are the path and exe name of the console executable.. it will launch the console, asking a series of configuration questions - enter team 33, username, etc. - one of the questions should be something like "do you wish to launch folding@home automatically as a service when the machine starts up?" type in "yes", and restart the machine.. If you wait for a few minutes (it has to download a work unit), and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, you'll see an exe along the lines of FAHCore_82.exe under the processes tab, utilizing close to 100% CPU, or if you have 2 instances - dual cure - then you should see two of them, running around 50% each. You will not see anything in the taskbar etc. related to FAH's exe when running as a service, and it will even run when someone is not logged-in)

I hope that helps. Welcome to the [H]orde!
