Hey guys...whats the word on using controllers to play PC games?....do you use them? or is the keyboard/mouse the preferred method?......

Nope KB/M for everything, I have an xbox360 controller but have never plugged it in. Theres only a handful of games which the analogue sticks really shine with and the primary one is racing games, and I bought a steering wheel :}

I use whatever I feel like. I haven't tried it yet but I want to play L4D with a controller so I can watch my team die because I can't turn around fast enough. :) Last night I was playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (clearance at Target $10 bucks) and the controller works perfectly for that game. Just depends on the game.

I use the 360 controler for console ports that weren't very well adapted to kb/mouse (RB6 2 was a good example), racing games, and flight sims.

if a game doesn't make good use of the x360 controller i don't even play it. my games are all played on my htpc, and im not about to use a mouse and kb on my couch.

that said, you'll find most almost all newer games use the xbox360 natively, many times its transparent to how it works on the xbox. fps games struggle many times, but i rarely play those anyway. although, some like bioshock and GoW work perfectly with the controller. im recently enjoying Assassins Creed and its perfect... better then the xbox360 version.

GRID and an xbox360 pad go hand in hand on the PC. I don't know how else I'd play it.

Same goes for DiRT, burnout paradise, assassins creed, GTA4, madden08, nba2k9, mlb2k9, trackmania, nfs series, halo series, mx vs atv, etc etc etc :)

I use a xbox 360 wireless controller with the USB adapter for games that natively support it. Specifically GTA4, Fallout 3, Mirrors Edge, etc. For true FPS games I much prefer the keyboard and mouse, but but occasionally it's nice to hang back on the couch and play with a controller.

I didn't even see an option to configure assassin's creed for controller input. Is there something that needs to be enabled for that?

no its on the left side of the screen where it says keyboard in the controller config. if you dont have the controller synced up before you start the game it might not show up. but its there- the only thing i noticed was i had to remap the buttons to line them up with what they should be, but it was painless and the game doesnt forget settings.

thing thats nice about assassins creed is the xbox buttons are depicted in game, like GoW and a few others. it makes things exactly like the console version...

This reminds me I want to get a 360 Controller so I can play some racing games.

I just buy the 360 controller and I'm good or do I need some sort of adapter?

you can buy the wired 360 controller and connect it to a free usb port on you computer, or you can buy a wireless controller but you will need the wireless gaming receiver too.

I've got an xbox360 controller for MAME/ZSNES, any GTA game, Assassins Creed, DMC4, and when we do L4D in split screen. Everything else is KB+Mouse.

I have a wireless controller and the wireless receiver, but i dont actually use them to play. Instead i just use it to chat with my friends over live when i play GFWL games like Fallout 3, GTA IV, and DoW2.

Im actually starting to prefer my keyboard and mouse over my controller now :p

Wow very cool....just plugged in my controller that i had lying around into a usb port and it updated and found it as 360 controller and installed it...nice...dont have to go buy a new one!

FPS - kb/m
racing games - 360 controller
flight sims - trusty ol' Sidewinder FF 2. Yes, it still works w/ Vista x64 (USB version, that is)

Certain console ports and racing games I use my 360 controller.

Xbox controller for racing and some space fighting games.
M/K for everything else.

I use my Logitech DualAnalog for some RPG's, any emulated console games, side-scrollers etc.

Anything that involves aiming or pointing gets a mouse.

I have the xbox 360 wired (usb) controller plugged into my win7 for COD4, which makes it a little easier to access all of the button functions quickly in the game.

The two biggest key mapping apps seem to be Pinnacle and Xpadder, with Xpadder having a bit more development and up-to-date patches. If anyone else has a method for mapping the xbox controller, let me know.

depends on the game. Keyboard mouse is much better in shooters and rts, but platformers are great with a 360 controller on the pc.

I use the X360 wired controller too, mostly for emulators though (PCSX2 in particular). Headache free and simple to configure and works like it should.

I have a 360 controller I use for sports and racing games. (wouldn't use anything else for GRID!)

If the game was originally developed for play on consoles, I prefer to play it with a controller. If it was developed for play on PCs, I use a kb/m.

I am in the process of hacking some SNES controllers to be native USB. I plan to use it with emulators to have an 'authentic' experience. :D

As for PC games, I use Kb/M.

Well... I like PC and consoles. But when I play PC it's only on my keyboard and with my mouse! There are games better on PC and other better on consoles! ;)

Was using my 360 controller to play Xmen Origins: Wolverine last night. Worked great.

Using an XBOX 360 controller, on the PC, is the only way to play Last Remnant.

I wonder how the SNES D-pad would handle racing games. I prefer the D-pad over thumbsticks.

I'm not sure. The NES pad via usb works great with the emulator. No delay or anything. You have to configure the controller the first time you use it but that is it. No drivers just plug it in.

I'm still using a dualshock (ps2) controller and adapter I got from radioshack. Works pretty well I guess - essential for some games though

I used to use a PS2 controller for a few years until the 360 contolller came out. Since most games support it natively I decided to switch. It works very well IMO

I use my 360 controller for all racing games.

I had to use my 360 controller for Dead Space as well, because the kb/m combination felt really clunky. I

n TR: Underground I actually kept both active and switched on the fly between the controller and the kb/m combo... I found some things easier to do w/ a controller, and others easier to do with a keyboard.

Which is probably why I stopped playing it... my mouse sensitivity would freak out and switch all around, which made moving around a chore...

But lets not forget the terrible frame rate drop when it comes to combat...

I was looking forward to it as well... oh well... :(
