considering large display

I want to get a large display for my computer, for like gaming and stuff... Whats the best and most price effective way to go? Projectors or what? If so... what woudl you recommend? I wanna spend like 1000 or less...
 
For under $1000 the best I have seen is a 21.3" lcd, which can be had in 25ms or 16ms repsonse time models. Is this as large as you were looking for?

Some models I know of offhand are the samsung 2130T, the viewsonic vp201B, and the dell 2001FP.

Anything under a couple grand in a projector is a bad joke. They don't even work right for data let alone games.

They don't work right for data? How do you mean? I was considering a projector due to weekly powerpoint presentations. Of course I would have it hooked up at home much of the time playing games...

What other ways are sub 2000 projectors a joke. I was planning to get the cheapest 1024x768 projector... will I be sorry?
 
All the cheap one’s I’ve used have had color ramp issues, pixel motion problems and just plain not so sharp pictures. TV on them was horrible. Small screen power point will work, just to try not to make it too large in too bright of a room. Don’t sit too close or you will get pixeled to death. :D

For projectors you also have to account for bulbs. If the projector is used as the primary monitor/tv doing most of the work, bulb life/cost may become an issue, bulbs cost $100 or higher. Intermittent use may not justify buying a projector.
 
I just bought a Viewsonic VP201B and I can tell you that if you want a good gaming LCD this is it. I have never been so immersed in a game in my life. Just make sure you have a nice rig to really bring out the beauty of it. However what I love about the VP201 is that it performs great in lower resolutions so having older hardware won't really take much away. It also looks great in regular applications.

Very valid point. As a rule bulbs cost a few hundred on a only "OK" unit. ;)

22" Aperture grill monitor? Perhaps a bit on the cheap side of 100$ but you can´t beat the image quality. Otherwise a HDTV?? Bigger and looks great :)
