Currently I have a rig with an XFX 5770 XXX Edition (stock clock is 875 over reference 850).

In years past, it was suggested to use matching hardware for setting up anything like dual channel, RAID 0, and SLI/CrossfireX. Does the same hold true today? If I'm serious about going CrossfireX with my rig, should I ONLY get another XFX 5770 XXX, or could I get one of the many other 5770's on the market?

Nah...I have a Sapphire 5850 crossfired with a Power Color 5850...no problem at all! Also I have an XFX 4870 (OC to 4890 speeds) crossfired with a Sapphire 4890...again no problems...also a Diamond 4870 crossfired with a Sapphire 4850 (core OC'd to 750mhz, memory @ 2300mhz)...and fine.

on the nVidia side, I have an Evga and XFX 8800GT SLI'd and it works splendidly.

Conversely I have 2 Identical EVGA GTX275's in SLI and again, works great.

No worries as long as both cards have the same amt. of ram, and try to keep the speeds as close as possible to each other (you really don't have too though) and you'll be fine.
