The 840D EE doesn't stand a chance against Conroe.
Then again, it's up to you whether you think the difference is big enough for an upgrade.
Your old system will still be exactly as fast as it is today. If that's still sufficient, then there's no reason to upgrade, is there?

That's why I never buy Extreme or FX processors because you can always get near-EE/FX speeds by overclocking a cheaper version. Like the PD 920 can overclock to well over even the newest EE @ 3.73GHz on air.
The 840EE is still a good processor (well, as good as any of the 800 series were... the 900 series are leaps and bounds ahead, well, for the OCing ability at least) but Conroe will be at least noticeably faster. Still, your chip can run anything out or coming out in the next year with ease, I'd hold out on the upgrade till Conroe matures considering what you have.

yea, it'll do okay, just don't compare it with the conroe. People with the highest end processors like the FX-60 and the PD955XE can't compare to the conroe, so you won't be alone when the conroe comes out =D

If you can afford it, you might as well wait till the Extreme Edition conroe comes out which should be by Nov./Dec. And by then there should be many motherboards to choose from and faster RAM.
