Conroe versus Prescot?

it will , i beleive so but that all comes with a price and its a price i could not afford at the mo.

I have a great system and its just falling behind for a dual core, iwill cash in when the price wars have truely kicked in.
 
I would hope so that a conroe destroys it, along with all those overclocked AMD chips as well.
 
I agree , we need the conroe even though most of us isnt going to buy it but its because ot the conroe prices will fall and it deserves respect for that . I wish i could purchase a Conroe.
 
Yep, the real winners would be the people who cheap out on an uber single core cedar mill (with EIST by that time, comparable power consumption with a64, it think) and splurge on an uber video card. That way, instead of getting one ultra uber component, you get 2 uber components.
 
Man when will the war begin , i need a cpu and these two CPU are going to change what a person pays for a Core.

July 27th 2006! I even advised my friends who only Buy AMD processors to wait until then.
 
The july month is going to go slowly , but it will be good in the end.

Its soo good , last year these chips were so expensive and now we can buy them for this much , amazing. Things arnt that bad after all.

sorry but i think you are wrong , you know that ASRock make cheap boards and i dont see why it wont make one for Conroe, also it doesnt mean if the conroe is this good that the board has to be expensive.

I have checked on ASRock and thay have made two boards or so for the conroe , also intel are more expensive than Nvidia.

And yes the conroe will be better than AMD even if you dont overclock it.
 
Wootage, asrock twins for me then when it comes out in the US. I think I will pair it with an e6300, even if I think an uber cpu is only worthwhile for playing games at 400x320 resolutions and useless in 1600x1200+. I will be buying the e6300 for power consumption and smoother multitasking + interface response.

Check out my sig. I bought that CPU about 6 months ago for $160 and I can run 3.75Ghz on it 24\7 with no problems.

I can hit 4ghz with a little tweaking and run it 4ghz stable but I don't like getting near 68-69C.

I wanted this new system to last Until UT2007 comes out then I will try to get rid of the MB and CPU and get whatever is the best deal out then.

Holy thread resurection :D

Nice man... grats on the chip. I ran my 660 at 3.73/1066 with little problems. I also played around with it and was able to get 4.5ish@900ish fsb.... it ran stable though I didn't really tax the system much. 3.73/1066 is what the EE of that gen runs at and the 600 series and the EE are the exact same processor. Can't go wrong there.... enjoy.

I have 2 buddies that bought a system about a year and a half ago (early 2005). Both spent about the same amount on there systems.
One went AMD Athlon 64 3200+. His possessor cost was $195 then at Newegg.
The other went Intel with a Pentium 4 3.0GHz Prescott. and it was about $200 also at the time.

Sure the AMD 64 3200+ ran games better but in multitasking the old Intel Prescott was smoother.

Heck even my 2.4c was smoother in multitasking then his $200 AMD 3200+. I know the 3200+ is a lot cheaper now. But thats what he paid back then and bought it at Newegg.com.

Don't get me wrong I was impressed with the AMD 64 3200+. Windows xp loaded faster then I ever seen it. But depending on what you did on your pc. Those old Prescott's where sometimes the better choice at the time.

I think the HT = smoother is way overrated. I have a dual opteron 246 (2 REAL procs) and can still lock up my box. Feels no better with basic multitasking (not encoding 2 videos at once) than my old athlon64 3000+ 939

I disagree totally. From a useage standpoint... I notice a difference between single core and Single core w/HT.... not to mention Dual Core. I think it's more noticable when you go from Dual Core (or HT) to a single core system than the reverse.

I went from a dual cpu system (dual opteron 246 2G ram, numa) to a single core athlon64, and I can't really tell the difference in daily multi tasking.

Edit: The only time I see a huge difference is if I'm specifically running two very cpu intensive tasks.

Yea... I think this is one of those debates that will NEVER come to complete agreement since it is 100% speculative and can't be shown in hard numbers. To each there own on this one... "D
