What is a more accurate to read the temps on my conroe e6400 the ASUS AI BOOSTER from my motherboard (p5w dh deluxe) or an independent program called CORE TEMP? Also is there a better way to view cpu temps? thanks
 
I'm looking for this same info (I'm installing AI Booster now).
SpeedFan is useless. It's telling me I'm up in the mid 70Cs on one sensor and 123C on another which isn't reflected in the BIOS hardware monitor at all.
 
I'm getting the best numbers out of the more simple PC Probe program that Asus has.
That seems to agree with the BIOS HW monitor and not return wacky values...

There is an issue with reading temps...Core Temp seems to be the best in terms of reliability.

Also my temps actually went down a bit with my OC I'm trying to keep the voltage as low as possible yet still remaining stable.

As long as you are staying under 60c under load you should be good.
 
kidstechno are the high temps reported in the asus monitors in windows?
I can't understand any of this, my 6400 shows 48C stock....oc to 3.2g it shows 51C
these are both idle temps.
MB temps says 38C stock and 41C when oc'd

EVERYONE else is reporting 30-35C idle and 40C when they oc them with ds3 and other MB's are the p5b deluxe boards reporting high or WTF is going on?

this is in Asus Probe and AISuite.


of course voltages are being rounded and stuff as well...in bios mine says 1.375(if I remember correctly) but in the asus windows utils it says 1.300 and when I set it to 1.4125 it says 1.400 in probe and the other shows 1.38.

I am confused as hell...

ps this is the 507 bios but the 504 did the same thing
(please forgive me on any number errors when typing...this is from memory)

HEY I read several people on extreme that tried .Core Temp and it was showing 15C on both cores...so that program ain't all that great either.

Core temp looks like the program to use. You have to remember there are a lot of people on XS that put dry ice and stuff on their processor just for numbers sake.

I think my temps are fine. Idle temps anywhere in the low 40's is fine and as long as you aren't hitting 60 under load I wouldn't worry about anything.
 
Can you trust the bios on the asus P5B (vanilla)? I have installed my zalman 9500 twice (once with a razor blade speaded layer of AS5, once with a blob) and am runnign at around 50c idle. It does complain abotu something called "uCode" on boot, so I think i need a bios update, willreport back with results thereof.
 
not as bad as when i reinstalled the zalman 9500 3 times and still idle in 45-47 E6700 with a P5B-Deluxe
 
I'm not sure what the case is, I do believe different motherboards have different temperature sensors, maybe that's what's doing it. In speedfan, I have a three temperature sensors

At idle just surfin the web we have:
Temp1: 46-47c
Temp2: 32c
Temp3: 54-56c

Then whenever I put a load on it, it's safe to assume Temp1 is the motherboard temp (stays current with PC Probe/Everest, does not change much), and Temp2 is possibly my processor temperature (stays current with PC Probe/Everest/AiBooster) now Temp3, I have no clue. On load with Orthos it's the only one even close to what my Core Temp reports. Definately can't be case temp (which is a solid 23c), so who the heck knows. I'm just gonna keep it there since 3.2 is a nice number and if I push it over 406fsb, I have to raise the Vcore so not chancing it :p

That ucode error will go away with a bios update.
 
You should also post whether you have SpeedStep enabled.

if it is enabled, idle temperatures will be much lower.

At stock speeds with it on both Core Temp and Probe report 38-41c. Load is 59-60c.

When I was overclocking last night though, I managed to push past 70c with Orthos Beta. I think that might have been a bit high ;). Time to get some better cooling...
 
Interesting question as I have been wondering about it as well. I have an e6400 on the intel D975XBX board and I am getting similar results. The intel tools are not compatible with the conroe (thats from intel support) but even my bios shows 45c-46c at stock speed/voltage and 47 @ 2.4ghz. Load temps have been as high as 50c...

When I use the intel desktop utilities or desktop manager the numbers are usually 3-4c less.

We may all have to wait until the MB manufactures get this all sorted out.
