Upon the arrival of Conroe - if it is as powerful as it is currently showing, how long after Intel launches a new architecture do they release the "xeon" line for multi-cpu based systems?

The 2 releases will be very very close too each other.....maybe together.

Google for "Woodcrest" that will have any updated info that you need.

Woodcrest is the initial release of Xeon with the Merom/Conroe core, that should be out in a few months. They'll be out on the Bensley platform, Blackford and Greencreek are the chipsets. Also... you'll see Clovertown sometime early next year, maybe late this year, which is a quad core based on the conroe core.

Mmmmm...4-way Conroe....we need Iwill to make an SLi SFF for Intel this time around!

Oh and if you are intrested, here are some links to a story on the Clovertown (4 core) chip.
its a early ES chip at 2.0ghz.

I would probaly never use a 4 core chip but it would be cool to know you have one just in case heh :D

Awsome thanks for the info and links, I am going to need to build some new servers for work soon - nothing of absolute importance, so i wanted to hold off until the new "xeon"s, if that will be their name, to see the performance vs what AMD may have out.

Poncho, is that dual Clovertowns?

Yea, that's dual Clovertowns and I'm pretty sure the multiplier is correct. They are only 2.13/1066FSB..... sounds about right.

Wow...first we hear of Conroe and now these Clovertowns. If i see a thread about octo-cores tomorrow....I'm gonna pre order 8 of them for 64 core goodness. That is, when I find a mobo and case that will fit all them.
