Okay I am a newb about everything intel so bear with me. If you could send me to some links or whatever that would work as well as a post.

1. Why so much hype behind conroe. Being an AMD man why do I want conroe?

2. Everyone is telling me not to get the AM2 and to wait to buy the conroe when it comes out. Why? What is going to make it so great?

3. I am looking for a very fast PC that will last for years down the road(besides the Video card). Will the CPU be able to do this for me?
 
read the last 10 post for your answer. Intel E6600 ( 300 dollars) is faster than a FX-63 (999 dollars) . These prices i through off the top of my head and are very close to the realistic price.

For one thing Conroe is supposedly kicking AMD's butt in performance and cooling. Another is that Conroe's initially going to have a much better price/performance ratio.

I wouldn't necessarily say wait to buy Conroe, but at least wait until it's released before buying/building a new computer. AMD is supposed to drop prices on their parts to compete better with Intel.

Either way you go (AMD or Intel) their parts SHOULD last you a little while, but you never know what's down the road.

EDIT: in case you didn't already know, Conroe's announced name is going to be Core 2 Duo. There's also supposed to be a Core 2 Solo I think. Read the NGMA sticky at the top of this section for more information about announced models
