Conroe clock speeds?

LOL $315 for a 2.4GHz Conroe, same clock as the P4 I intend to retire when they are made available. ROFL

Another 3-4 years on a 2.4 ghz processr  I find that humorous.

Obviously you dont understand clock speeds is not what makes a processor anymore

Its a whole new archatecture, that doesnt rely on pure clock speeds and other things come in play. AMD has been playing this game for a while now and look how good they are doing. If it wasnt for AMD, Intel still might be playing the more GHz = Better game.

2.4ghz is not fast enough to beat AMD especially at that price. X2 are overclocking better and better with each new stepping. Intel is setting itself up for another disaster.

I already said I was intending on upgrading then, even gave my post teh  smily saying it was humurous, I wasn't getting worked up....calm down. If I didn't know what I was getting into I wouldn't have said I was intending to upgrade.....reading comprehension for the win.

Net burst and the more GHz = Better game would have worked great,....if it had been able to scale to 10GHz as Intel was predicting years ago.

Well I blame Presscott super long pipeline for the demise of Netburst. A 25 staged 90nm offspring of Northwood probably would not have done to bad.

Ok sorry, just how it was worded, sounded like you were making fun of Intel because of the low clock speeds. Im sick today, give me a break :D

Does that seem reliable? I got the impression that clock speeds were going to be like around 2.5 - 3.3 GHz.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isnt Conroe supposed to be based on Centrino/Penitum M technology and has the concept of what AMD has been doing since the Athlon XP? If that is so, then 2.4ish on a intel system on that concept should be something to see...

I still want more info on this though. If its that damn good and it can compete with AMD, I might just hop back later.

It's being built on the Merom architecture last I heard. I also heard it claimed that it was supposed to be another 30ish perfect more clock efficient than the pentium M. Only time will tell. Bring on the reviews!!! I'm iching for an upgrade :(

Isn't Conroe supposed to be 30% more efficient per clock in comparison to Yonah, not Pentium-M ?

It's going to be Really interesting to see what Conroe brings, I really hope Intel gets it right this time for their sake. I'm just waiting to see how Conroe fares against AMD's offerings, if it's another disaster I think I'll go AMD.

I know clock speed isn't everything but AMD will be tweaking their own CPUs with FSB increases and DDR2 with the new socket so these clock speeds don't really convince me. As we've seen Yonah, which performs about the same as AMD clock for clock. So how much increase will Conroe have upon Yonah; while AMD tweaks their already superior CPUs (Yonah standard?).

Hmm... let's see... new Intel architecture... vs 7 year old K8 architecture tweaked every year. I'll take the new architecture, please.

The P6 is architecture is over almost 10 years old.

10 > 7

I find it funny that so nany have a problem with reading comprehension. artical clearly states (told a line of ) 1066 . No mention of the behemeth 1333 3.33ghz EE model . I am pleased there was no mention of a 800 thank god. Come on guys clock for clock yonah is as fast as X2 yonah at 2.7 slaps a fx 6000 around like a dumm bitch. and conroe is suppose to be 30% faster than yonah . What do you want from Intel. If you want the 2.7 yonah bitch slapping go to AT forums CPU section and go back some pages to find it .

Conroe is going to smoke we don't need a nuke.

And the Conroe is a next generation core. Today it's 0 years old. AMD's next gen core isn't coming out until late 2007/early 2008.

I thought it was late 2008? Regardless, you took the words straight out of my mouth.

Thanks for putting it into perspective for us :) BUT... will there be the 3.33GHz model for sure?

According to Poncho on this forum, I believe (he works for Intel), the 3.33ghz Conroe will be the Extreme Edition, with the 1333fsb.

It'd be nice If Intel released a Pentium D 960(2x3.6) and 980(2x3.8) before the introduce Conroe.

Damn, I would love to get my hands on that chip. Looks like I better start saving up. :D

Part of your wish will be granted as the Presler 960 will be out in Q2 2006, no word on a 970 however.

They are releasing 960 in April. But what's the point of hoping for that when you can just buy a 920 and overclock it to oblivion today?

Why hasn't there been Conroe sample reviews on the internet yet from "anonymous" Intel insiders ? :(

Conroe has just started to trickle down in quantity to some validation teams, before that it's been next to impossible to get your hands on one. My guess is you combine that with the fact that people don't want to lose their job and you've got your reason for the lack of reviews.

I've got my 970 now... (920 overclocked to 3.9Ghz at default voltage)

I just installed it last night, and didn't have time to thoroughly test it.

I think I should be able to hit 4Ghz on air (XP-90c) easily with a slight boost to vcore.

Conroe is a rehash of the P6 architecture. It might be heavily modified but it is based off of the P6.

HmmmDonut said:

LOL "might"

The Pentium Pro (P6) has as much in common with Conroe as the K5 has in common with the A64 X2. Talk about rehashes.

OMFG, 12 - 13 task pipeline against 17 task X-2 pipe..... clocks at the same, means better performance for intel... AMD's got nothing against that... 3.33Ghz Conroe? =O... that'll kill

AMD will have something.... in 2008 :p
The Conroe is NOT a rehashed P6. There are some P6 elements (and even some stuff out of the Dothan/P3 camp from what I remember), of course, according to many folks on the 'net. But it is indeed a new architecture. Intel is poised and ready to go to kick some K8 ass.

Yes , but I have a question : since Woodcrest debuts at 3GHz isn't it a bit starnge for Conroe to see the light at only 2.66GHz ? I expected 2.93GHz at worst.

Well... Woodcrest is also 1333 FSB so you have to take that into account. 3.33/1333 is what conroe EE will hit at.

SCWWWEEEET!

Most of the time Intel doesn't launch the whole line at once. It will take time to bin out the best Conroes. Current 9xx is but just another example. They didn't launch 3.6 and 3.8 right out the gate, did they? The artical talked about 2.67GHz and yes they will more than likely go to 3.3 and probaly 3.63 hehehe. It makes a very good case for going back to .5 increments.

I agree with the other guy but wished Intel had just made a smaller or 90nm Northwood with a bigger faster cache. After you see a frozen one running at 4.2GHz (Vapo) you end up being confused why Intel (you guys) didn't? Those sights talking about P4s needing to be 4.7GHz to beat AMD's best is absolutely FOS~! They wrongly don't take into account FSB. Even at 300MHz FSB or 1200MHz effective you're dealing with a beast! So you end up with 3, 3.3 and 3.6GHz. Oh and Dual Core Northwoods would have at least ran cooler.

Don't even bother to worry about the AMD leaning folks here. 90% of them used K6-2 and AthlonXP when Intel kicked the shit out them as well. Conroe could be cheaper, kick the shit out of whatever AMD had it wouldn't change any of 75 to 80% folks for AMD on this forum and or many others. IMHO, it's a good move that Intel doesn't waste time and its resources trying to change these minds. ;)

does anyone know around how much a conroe will cost when it debuts?
