Connecting

my friend had asked me a question and i couldnt answer it so i thought you guys/girls could

he has 4 6 foot network cables and he has them connected together with the connector. he was asking me if it slowed the connection down by connecting so many. i told him i wasnt sure but doubt it. am i wrong?

heres the setup

0=computer
+=connector
---=network cable

0-----------+-------------+-----------+------------0

he is connecting to his moms computer in the other room

Well, there is going to be some connection degrading, but if he doesnt transfer lots of files it should be fine

It'll be fine... I'm sure the 3 connectors ended up costing him twice as much as a 25' cable, but for that short of a distance It'll be ok.

he had found the connectors in a box and i had some network cables. but im going to tell him to get a 25 or 50 ft cable

DEFINATELY make sure that the couplers are rated for Category 5 or higher!

It should work, however I dont believe it's within spec. I've always heard CAT5 spec allowed 2 breaks (i.e. patch panel and wall jack).

Again, make sure the couplers are CAT5. If not, it wont work.

ok he gave me more info. he has1 cat5e 1 cat 5 and 2 cat6. what will this do when there connected together?

but let me just say again that 1 long cable would be prefered.
