connecting lesser devices to a nas

I recently had one of my dvrs die on me from dish network, and I was looking to connect an external drive using essta and/or usb to the unit and thought, why not take advantage of my 10tb nas I have using iscsi or another protocol such as smb. I tried to Google an adapter I was almost certain they would have made and came up with nothing. Anyone have any ideas? I am running a couple of Dell md1000s with freenas and zfs.
