Connecting headphones question

n00bish question...Does it make any difference if I connect my headphones though my speaker's headphone jack vs. connecting them directly to the soundcard's line out? I was wondering if they were being passed to the speakers internal amp in the former case.
 
the answer to your last question is "maybe", it all depends on how the speakers' amplifier circuitry is designed. The port on the front could pass you either the direct high level output from your sound card, or pass you the output of the amplifier (or somewhere in between, such as after volume control but before amplification)

The answer to the former question is again, maybe. If you have really crappy speakers, like i do, you could pick up a lot of cell-phone interference or other noise. if you have a good setup, which amplifies the input before outputting to headphones - and does it without introducing too much noise - then you can use that to boost the power to a good set of headphones.
