Connecting FIOS HD box to receiver.. Optical or HDMI?

There's no reason to use optical if you have HDMI. Both will pass through AC3 5.1 which is the best you will get with broadcast content. Optical will just add another cable and take up a port on your receiver; you should only use it if you're using component/composite video.

I use hdmi. My cable box also came with an HDMI cable so I used it.
