Hey all,

I'm a real newbie to all of this audio stuff, so I need your help. I'm planning to buy an Onkyo surround receiver + a pair of Energy RC-10. My question is: Can I connect some of the creative speakers from my surround set to the receiver?

I know the sub's not possible because it's an active sub, but I think the speakers could work, but I'm not sure... Can anyone help me out here? I don't feel like blowing up my speakers, yet.

This is a truly ghetto setup but its doable. And the sub can be hooked up. Again, not even close to ideal, but doable. You will need to splice an RCA connector on to where the 3.5mm connector is for the sub's cable.

You said you can't because its an active sub, yet all HT subs are active. I don't know what you mean by that.

@450 The speakers are from a T7900 set.

@criccio I know it's far from ideal, but it's only a temporary solution until I can afford some decent surround speakers + a sub. And about the active sub part: As you can see I'm a huge newbie, I don't even really know what active means. I just thought active meant that it's got it's own power supply + volume dial.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Check the resistance. A lot of multimedia speakers are 4ohm and many receivers in the US aren't speced below 6ohm

What about Europe? I don't live in the US. I'll try to look up some information about my speakers, thank you.

Or you could open up a speaker and see if there's something written on the driver.

A lot of foreign receivers are 6ohm but some are 4ohm. Check the receiver and maybe put a multimeter on the speakers to find out their resistance.
