Well im stumped by this wondering if any networking guru can help me out!

The problem is that my boss wants to be able to connect to our other shop about 1 and a half away and also be able to contact the regional boss who is about the same distance away. Our regional boss wants to be able to view some of our documents ..etc

I was thinking about a VPN but would this work with 3 different networks as such? would wireless be able to transmit that far?

I have some ideas but im trying to broad my thinking (lol) any guys have a better idea of what to do?

1 and a half what? And are all the sites already connected to the internet?

its 1 and a half miles away and yes both sites have internet access
 
So do a VPN over the net. That way you don't need the wireless, which would be real tough unless you had some nice directional antennas and a clear line of sight.
 
As long as it's pretty low bandwidth, VPN will work fine. Wifi can work for several miles but it starts becoming a trickly setup after a few hundred feet.
 
wireless such as 802.11a/b/g? Then i dont believe so. Unless you want to setup a parabolic dish with direct line of sight, then have fun. You could setup a IPSEC tunnel between all 3 locations. It all depends on what your budget is and what requirements you have. The possiblites are endless
 
Agreed. You could come up with a few different solutions. Sounds like VPN will be ideal for yours.. but wireless could be fun if you are in the right area.
 
You do not need a parabolic for a mile and a half shot, or 3 mile shot for that matter. For 1.5 miles you don't even need a very high gain yagi as long as you have a good LOS and fresnel zone clearance. But yes, wireless WAN's, unless you really know what your doing, can be a bit of trouble. Since your asking on this board about it certain assumptions can be made so unless you plan on hiring someone to setup a WWAN link then VPN is definitely a better choice and probably a better choice regardless of the wireless variables. It is a fairly easy thing to do depending on the hardware and/or software you choose.

I think ill write up a couple of proposal's which will include an option for wireless but like you all say vpn seems the easiest route.
