connect 2 devices to an external enclosure

I don't post often here, so I hope this is the right place, and that post isn't old news.

Here goes. I have an external enclosure with the Oxford 911 chip. While using the Oxford software (configure features, FW upgrade) I noticed that there are primary and slave feature. I enabled both. Then I added an extra molex connector and swapped a ribbon that let you hook up to two devices. Flipped on the power switch and Windows recognized both devices ( burner & HDD). A few notes,

Only works with firewire, USB only recognizes primary device
After you disconnect (perhaps "safely remove hardware" feature), reconnecting may not pick up both devices.
I/O is SLOW between devices within the enclosure. Otherwise speed is normal.

Drawback is you can't fit the top back on. What do you think?
