i am sorry to riddle this forum with a senseless question, but i've read the faq and still haven't figured it out yet. I want to fold i've downloaded the client at stanford's site, if've put my name and team in there and it is running.
Now what settings should i put on the program and how much bandwith does this thing take up; a little; a lot?
My cpu is an athlon 2600+ thoroughbred from my mame machine which when isn't being used will be folding. Is there anything i should worry about such as cooling with high cpu utilization and ram at 512mb?
Also how do i get those cool folding [H]'s at the bottom of my threads?
And is there anything else i should worry about or programs i should use to maximum my efficiency with folding.

Sorry, because i know this is a repost somewhere with all the pertinent information, but i hope you can help me, because i want to help you too. :) thanks.

Bandwidth over time next to nothing. Even when downloading new cores I never notice it on my cable or T1's.

There really shouldn't be a problem as long as you are using good cooling solutions. Most of my boxes run the stock POS coolers and it never is a problem. 2 machines I run higher performance cooling on because I oc them but if I ddin't the stock would be fine.

Also how do i get those cool folding [H]'s at the bottom of my threads?

I use this but with a bracket before the first URL and a close bracket after the second image.. You need to change the number's to your folding ID that you find at mentally retired or extremeoverclocking.

Then it looks like this:

Best performance probably comes with a live linux cd. But basically minimize as many app's and services as possible.

Best way to maximize your Folding performance is to keep adding boxen!! :D

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, we're all here to help!

Keep on Folding!!

last question, whats this all about?

DC Client Monitors

These proggies help you keep track of your DC boxes:

Electron Microscope...also a good general DC site with links. By our very own LPerry aka TheWeatherman. Top Pick!!

thanks so much for all your help, i hope my stats come up so i can check them out!

Programs like EMIII and FAHMon allow you to track progress on each of your boxen. They give you information such as point values, times to completion, what protein you're working on, etc., and the killer feature.... they look pretty too! :D

A live CD is one that doesn't require a harddrive to run the OS like knoppix. There is a live linux cd iso with F@H floating around. I am sure someone who stops in has the link. I will go look for good measure though.

well thanks for all your help i'm currently boxen on 2 computers, one a p3 733mhz, and 2600 thoroughbred from my mame machine. I'll leave it on as much as possible to fold away but i have to probably change the psu soon since it out of wack, well at least the fan is. How much time is it going to take to get to a thousand WU's at the minimum recommendations for cpu power?

I'm also possibly going to send that powerpoint presentation on folding to my university so they can fold over the summer. What will they need to know to set it up so its pretty much pain free?

1,000 wu's or 1,000 points. Each wu is worth 40ish to 600 points.

WU's very greatly in size, and different WU's process at different speed. That said most machines crank out from about 40 to 75 points per Ghz per day.

ps - the really big ones have a premium on them.
