Confusing temperatures... Heatspreader issue?

Im running a loop with these components:
Swiftech Storm, Swiftech MCP-655, DangerDen acrylic res(plumber's gooped to prevent leaks), DangerDen Maze4 GPU block, and a Voyeurmods Quad 120mm radiator(huge). There are 4 yate-loons at 12v in a pull-config on the rad with a 1.5" acrylic shroud.

The system is a 3800x2 with 2 gigs of OCZ platinum pc4000 ddr and a Leadtek winfast generic-looking 7800GTX. The loop flows from pump->cpu->gpu->rad->res->pump.

My idle temps were originally 27-29C for the CPU which I felt was kind of high but load was 31-32C at stock. Nice delta there so no problem. I'm now up to 2.4 at 1.3volts priming both cores and it idles around 30-31C and load is 34-35C. The weird thing is that the GPU is AFTER the CPU and the gpu doesn't go much above 30C with ATItool running. It idles around 25C :confused: It's O/C'd from the factory by 20mhz too.

The only thing I can think of to explain this is that the heatspreader on the 3800x2 sucks a lot and the fact that the Maze4 is directly touching the core of the GPU is keeping it much cooler. I'd assume if my seating of the storm block was poor, the delta from idle to load would be more than that of the GPU. What are your thoughts? Is this a heatspreader issue?
 
Have not run prime in a long time, does it exercise the GPU ? I dont think it does, so your CPU is screaming crunching numbers while the GPU is doing little or nothing. Actually with that going on I would expect your GPU water block to eventually heat up the GPU to your loop water temp as I agree with you about the block directly on the GPU die etc., In any event, my guess is that the GPU is basiclly doing nothing with prime running and is therefore cooler. As I said, its been a long time since I ran prime and could be completely mistaken.

Quick look confirms my suspicion that prime would not exercise you GPU very much if at all. Perhaps I misread your post or missed something but think if you run a more compresensive benchmark, one of the 3dmark ones would do, you would see your GPU temps rise significantly.

Im running the atitool 3d windowed thing at the same time as 2 instances of prime and I've also run 3dmark. The GPU doesn't usually see over ~31C under load.
 
try running rthdrbl I think that is the best thing for stressing the CPU.

Anyways your temps seem great I wouldn't be too worried. Keep in mind that these thermistors for the chips typically have no better than a +- 5C range of error. Meaning your CPU could really be at 30C load and the GPU could be at 35C load.
