Confused by making account

you have to wait til you complete a work unit or two.. once you do and the hardfolding stats is updated.. search for your name using this link http://www.hardfolding.com/fh_stats/ once you find your name.. click on it.. at the end of it you will see something like this &id=663147 (<-- do not use this number since it is mine) at the end of the url..
 
Once you have completed a Work Unit (WU), it'll post to Stanford. Once stanford recognizes it, then Hardfolding.com will do its thing. This can take several hours after a WU completes.

The best thing to do is check this. Your User ID will show up in New Members once hardfolding has picked up the completed WU and the resulting points. Click on your User Name and it'll take you to YOUR stats page. Your User ID will be in the upper left corner under Stats ID. THIS is your Stats ID that will stick with you. This is also what you'll need to create the account.

trying to configure the gpu client... having problems... I censored out the passkey initially because I though I should type in my password, next time I just left it blank, and it worked just fine. apparently the servers are having probs?
 
Funny though. I was also replying and then had to go take the frozen pizza out of the oven. fortunately I refreshed the page before I quad-replied with you all.
 
It's ok. The Assignment Servers (AS) for GPU clients are having some problems handing out work. I've got 2 GPU2 Clients waiting. Just leave it alone and it'll pick one up shortly.
 
you dont need a passkey.. they still havent fixed it so that it actually works..
 
Currently at 12%! actually folding! What kind of shader clock do you think I can get on my 9800GTX? The fan doesn't seem to change (get louder) like it does playing games too. I see that the client also is using 50% of my CPU, how would this be if I was dual GPU (or octa gpu for the people w/ 4xGTX 295's?).

EDIT: I was 700 core, 1100x2 ram, and 1750 shader for the first 12%, then I bumped it to 2000 shader, got to 15%, bumped it to 2200 shader and FAH got mad at me and stopped, and got another project... moving it back down to 2000. that sucks..., 3% again with 2000 still.

it shouldnt be using any cpu.. core speed isnt as important as shader speed.. and i believe you are at the limit of the shaders.. also ram speed is not important either..

well FahCore_11.exe is using 50% of my CPU and 65mb of ram, not sure what else I can say.

edit: I was resizing my windows around typing this response and I got an "unstable machine" error again around 15-16%, damn. Sigh, turning it down to the linked 1750MHz.

? I just have the text window open that says the percentage, etc in the command prompt, and I have Fahmon on (and was surprisingly easy to get working). Other then that I'm just listening to mp3's and browsing the internet.

1%... again (it'd be at 30% if I wasn't screwing around with the settings :p)

edit: googling around "F@H viewer" no, I'm not, as I heard it hurts performance.
 
well it sounds like you are using the console client.. ive never used it.. but id recommend the system tray client.. much easier gui to deal with then the console client..

Yeah, when I ever post questions to join folding, I'll have a whole bunch respond :p

Great thing about GPU folding is that I can actually see progress now! CPU folding always took much longer, and configuring the app always wanted my machine's password (I set it w/o one), so it was always a pain.

you didnt have to set your machines password.. you could use any password.. i always used root or admin as my password with the cpu client..

To install the MPI service for the WinSMP client, you need to supply valid login credentials for an account with administrator privileges so it has the permissions necessary to set itself up.

ahh.. only tried the winsmp client once.. and will never do it again..

hmm, just started up the CPU client and it doesn't seem to need a password anymore...

My GPU keeps stopping at 15%, and then gives me something else to work on. Three times so far I've let the GPU go, it hits 15%, and gives some kind of error. The most recent being "exception thrown in GuardedRun -- Gromacs cannot continue further" and then it sends what I did get done to FAH.

EDIT: how much difference in performance is there with the SMP client? I'm using the command line one right now.

The SMP client is a CPU client, not a GPU client. It is quite a bit better than the standard uniprocessor CPU client. However, the ideal use of a CPU for foldiing would be to set up virtual machines to run the Linux SMP client: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1410289
