Are there any articles out there that explain in detail the fsb, multipliers, mem speed of the core 2 duo? I've owned amd cpus for a while but am now looking into going back to the blue side of things. I'm confused about why the C2D has a 1066mhz fsb but uses pc6400 (800mhz) ram... Don't intel cpus take a performance hit when the ram is asynchronous to the fsb? If that's true, isn't it better to have pc4200 ram, or run ram at 266mhz?

As you can see, I'm in need of a little help, but cannot seem to find an article that is explaining this in detail.. any help would be appreciated :rolleyes:
 
C2D CPUs run @ 266 quad pumped.
(4x 266 = 1066 MHz).

Default RAM speed is 266 (DDR2-533).

The reason why people buy DDR2-800/PC2-6400 is generally for overclocking.
Or also sometimes just for extra performance, as more bandwidth (even when faster than FSB) = better performance.

That used to be the case... but really isn't anymore. IIRC it's due to the increased latencies that you get with DDR2... the memory bandwidth kinda "masks" this. Also... like the poster above me said... the headroom is often used for overclocking as well.
 
Intel has some pretty decent async modes, so dont be afraid to run 667 ram without overclocking :)
