Ok. I read the faq.. Looked at issan's colorful green and yellow chart, but I can't find this processor listed

Is this dual channel capable?

I'm not 100 sure about it but i think the Clawhammer cores are 200MHz slower than the Newcastle, and the Clawhammers actually have a 1MB L2 Cache. its the same with the Clawhammer 3200+ and Clawhammer 3400+ compared to the Newcastles.

the clawhammers are s754 only. they have 1mb l2 and were the first a64 core. all s939's are newcastles or winchesters. clawhammers are single channel chips.

edit: newegg has the specification wrong. its a winchester. its voltage requirements are that of a winchester and i believe the newcastle didnt have SSE2
 
To the best of my knowlege, No. There will be dual-core processors of 939 and s939 vintage.

that's what i thought at first too.. but it's a hacked down fx/opteron core. the AS gives it away.

and for the record, all s939 chips support dual channel. all 754 onlt support single channel. no exceptions.

laforge: i'd probably go with that 'clawhammer' i was reading a thread over at XS, the guys who had one seemed to be able to overclock pretty far (2.9ghz on water for one of them)
 
ah, i was wrong, its a newcastle. i have my winchester overvolted and i forgot stock was 1.4 :p

anyway, i would get the retail box winchester, just cuase i like retail box's and the warrenty that comes with them. you might wanna hold off for a little bit tho, venice just came out (or is coming very, very soon, its already in europe) and features a better memory controller and SSE, with possibly some other improvements, im not sure.

and for the record, all s939 chips support dual channel. all 754 onlt support single channel. no exceptions.

i said this on the assumption that all clawhammers were 754's... if this is indeed a cut down FX, do you know if it features strained silicon? that would be awesome. what does CPU-Z read on the code name over at XS?
 
oy... i might just sell my winchester and get one of those...

but ill probably wait for venice and then sell my winchester
