Hi, gang:
I'm trying to refurbish three PCs for family members, and in the process of testing the HDs, I'm getting confusing and contradictory results. I'm hoping y'all can help
I have three 500-GB drives, one Seagate 7200.12 and two WD5000AAKs units. Test results follow:
Seagate: Passed SeaTools long test. Spinrite: No bad sectors, but drive has three "red dots" on the ECC bar (and about 5 million ECC errors, but nothing "uncorrectable," and no other SMART specs that look odd.
WD 1: Passed WDDIAGS long test. Spinrite: 1 bad sector (marked as "U" in Spinrite, but NO ECC errors or any other SMART stats showing any indications at all..
WD 2: Passed WDDIAGS long test. Spinrite: No bad sectors, no ECC errors or any other SMART stats looking weird save for *21 red dots* on the seek error stat bar.
Are these drives okay...or are they just failures waiting to happen?
Does ANY DRIVE escape Spinrite unscathed nowadays?
Thoughts?
Thanks, as always,
