Anyone know what size/brand/speed of SD cards are compatable with the Wii?
Maybe a list somewhere, or just what you've personally found to work in it.

Thanks!

I have used a variety of different Sandisk SD cards, and all of them have worked without issue.

Does the Wii have to format the card first?
Or could you actually use an SD card (say from a camera) with info already on it and back stuff up from the Wii to it?

No need for format. I poped my card in from the digi cam and was able to view the images through the Wii Pictures channel. Another cool feature is that you can listen to mp3's during Excite Truck races!!!!!!:D

OK: listen up folks. ALL SD cards work with the Wii. If it doesn't work, then...

A. It is broken, or;
B. It isn't an SD card.

I ask because there are a decent number of devices (palm pdas come to mind). That do not support 4gb sd cards without a special driver (in the palm case I believe the drive is now standard but was not always).

i dont think it supports 4gb cards.

Does anyone know if you can put your game saves on the sd card?

can you put your virtual console games on there??what if your wii breaks and yourvirtual console games are on there?? how do you get them back/

No, the Wii does indeed support 4GB cards. The Wii supports up to 4GB SD cards, and since there aren't any SD cards bigger than that yet, the Wii supports all of them.

I'll say it again: the wii supports every SD card out there on the market.

Yes, you can put your saves onto the SD card, but just for storage. Pretty much zero games support direct saving or loading onto the SD card AFAIK. The nice thing about SD cards is the ability to save your virtual console games onto them.

yes you can..

you can't play the games off an SD card. but you can savethem to an SD card..

if you want to play a game that's on a SD crd you have to copy them to your internal memory.. and then you can play..

so the SD card serves more as a back up.. or long term storage solutiuon.. if you're not ognna play a game for a while.. but it's taking up room.. just toss it into an SD card

as far as i know.. yuo're fucked if your wii breaks... i don't thin you can transfer games to a new wii...

or maybe.. you can call nintendo.. tell them the situation.. and they would allow you to DL games you bought to a new wii??

i'm not sure... i don't have an answer for that question..

You can save the game data to the SD card, but it does tie the game to your console.

If it brakes I believe you can have Nintendo lookup your SN and see your info and transfer it to the new account for redownlaod. Thats an assumption but makes sense to me.

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is the way it works. You can move the files around but you can't use them so there's no point. I'm assuming they move your account or whatever, allowing you to just redownload the games anyway, so you probably don't need to copy them to sd anyway.

All of your downloads from the Wii Store and registered to your account (your system) and you can re-download them anytime.

So really, when it comes to Virtual Console games, you dont even need to back them up, since they dont work on other systems anyway.
