just wanted a little validation on this.

I have a palomino 2100+ (aka..hot as a thousand white suns)

I was prime95ing it the other day when i noticed that my mouse stuck.

after pulling the plug it wouldn't post

then it cold boot a couple times

and never posted again

after serveral attempts to jumper it to no avail

does this sound like how most CPUs go to their grave?

couldn't be a mobo problem right? I mean, I was messing with the HSF without my wrist strap but that can be it ... no?

sounds like how my chipset got the grave a month ago...but it didnt freeze, it just shutoff and in teh morning it wouldnt post...the fans would get power for about half a second then nothing...i too was priming.

That could be just about anything in the motherboard, RAM, CPU zone.

Remember, it could just be coincidence that you were priming when it went down. Could have happened during a session of Word.

I'd suspect things in this order:

Motherboard
RAM
CPU

Of course, that's not necessarily the order to check things out in, however. RAM is usually the easiest to test as someone usually has some nearby that you can swap. Motherboards are obviously the biggest pain to swap out.

I had a stick of RAM go bad a few weeks ago. The computer stopped POSTing altogether. Wouldn't even show anything on the screen. In another computer, I'd get the beginnings of a POST, but it would then freeze and the text was garbled. Replacement RAM fixed it.

I've also seen failure to POST actually be caused by video cards. So, sorry, but it's really hard to rule anything out based on those symptoms. So, in your case, I'd troubleshoot the easiest-to-rule-out stuff first.
