Had a little hiccup tonight.

It was time for me to clean the dust out of my PC. I have been neglecting it lately. So I power down the rig in my sig, and clean out the dust and go to fire it back up. No problem I thought. It goes to start up, and no POST Just endless cycles of trying to start up and shut down. Ugh.

So, I start unplugging everything. Still no post. Clear the CMOS. No Post. Pull all the RAM but one stick. No post.

At this point I started looking for some chickens. I didn't have any luck finding live ones.

I try one more thing before going for a sledgehammer. Some new RAM from my stash. Put it in, and fires right up.



TL: DR
no post, tried everything, got mad, looked for chicken, was bad RAM.
Only lost 3 or 4 hours of folding time...

lol, i feel your pain. i had something similar happen when i installed my graphics card, except it was my fault, cuz im retarded.. :D (i diddnt plug in the cards power)


 
So the moral of the story is that if you don't have a chicken handy to sacrifice but its a simple enough problem, simply looking for a chicken may be enough?
 
LOL. I learned a while ago, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only time I have down time is when I'm tinkering with stuff :(

maybe. I don't want to be in the position to test that hypothesis anytime soon though.

yeah. I usually don't turn my PC off, but it had been about 6 months since I cleaned out the dust, and figured it was time.
 
I clean mine with it still running. I don't want to lose any pernts!! You should have seen the cloud the last time. I thought I was going to choke to death before I got out of the room.

Thank god... I thought I was the only one:)

It really, really, really pisses my wife when I blow all the shit out of my boxens in the house.. not sure why, but I think maybe it's the suffocating cloud of fuzz that shoots out of them and then slowly settles all over the room.... just maybe:)

 
I normally grab a big fan and use it to exhaust the dust outside thru the window. It really does not help much shows the wife I am making an effort.

I do the same thing now. It keeps the dust in the room to a minimum instead of it ALL settling in the room.
