I just ordered my computer. I would like to thank all of you who helped me select the parts. Here's the specs:

1. Abit NF-S
2. MS Internet keyboard
3. MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0
3. Antec P160 case
4. AMD Athlon 2500+
5. 1GIG mushkin level 1 pc3200
6. WD Raptor 36GIG
7. Sapphire 9800 Pro
8. Lite-on 16x
9. Antec True Power 430
10. 2x 120mm Enermax quiet fans.
11. ViewSonic G90F 19"

I am planning on getting some good 2.1 speakers, and a decent sound card along with a good storage drive. I just need to save up a little more money.

Thanks a lot!
Eli Morgan

Crazy, you stole my setup. :p (Not like the NF7-S/2500+ setup is rare.. hehe)

From that list I have the G90F, Sapphire 9800 Pro, NF7-S and 2500+.

You're gonna love all of it. Nice choice on the ram, too.

I like it.

PSU is great, Lite-On drives are the ones I use in current system. Mushkin RAM I really like. And that monitor, it's great; my friend's roommates run it and they are excellent.

right on, that makes me feel good about my purchase:)

Once again, thanks a lot for your help!

Later,
Eli Morgan

do you guys see any known issues with the components?

what 3DMark01/03 scores do you think I will get with this computer.....everything stock?

Nice system! You'll love the 2500+!!!

Just an edumacated guess, but you will probably get around 14k to 16k (at stock)

Will you be oc'ing the 2500+ to 3200+?

I will be overclocking it once I get my system set up and all. Just wanting to know what I'll get stock with 3Dmark01 and 03. Thanks for your response.

Thanks,
Eli

also, I hear that the Abit nf7-s has a temperature senser that is a little bit off. how will I know what my cpu temp really is?

In BIOS, the Abit reads the CPU temp about 3 - 5 degrees hotter in my experience.

When in Windows, install Motherboard Monitor 5 or Speedfan or the Winbond hardware monitor.

They'll read the CPU temp a little better.

I am not planning on getting a seperate thermal sensor, so this is just goint to have to do I guess. I mean 3-5c? its not that big of a deal. Also, I hear the stock HSF on the AMD 2500+ is pretty good, but in order to get decent performance out of it, will I have use Arctic Silver instead of the thermal pad that comes included with the processor? I am not going to be overclocking that much, and I want to have decent temps.

Thanks for your help

Relax dude, motherboard monitor/speed fan are FREE. Zilch cost. $0. They're tiny little programs that run in the background.

But yeah, Abit tends to overread. So subtract a few degrees C from their reading and that's the reading provided by the CPU core.

I'll even be nice and provide a link:

EDIT: Oops, I misread your post. You said you DON'T want one. I thought you said you didn't want to pay for one. Stupid me.

It's good stuff. :)

Also, if you want better heat transfer between the CPU and heatsink, I'd suggest removing the pad, cleaning the heatsink's base, and applying some silver compound. AS3, AS5 are pretty much the best and you can find them in some computer specialty stores if you don't want to buy online.

thanks for the link. As I said before, I didn't order arctic silver with my purchase, and I dont feel like ordering it now, and waiting till it gets here to start building my computer. So, will the thermal pad and the stock HSF be sufficient? that was originally my only question.

thanks

ok, thats all I needed to know. I hear some people saying that they overclocked to 3200+ speeds with the stock HSF, and i was just basically wondering if they were using the thermal pad, or arctic silver. I dont absolutely need to overclock, it'll be plenty fast without it.....

thanks man

Oh, another thing...

Does Sapphire make good cards? Will my power supply be sufficient for my future upgrades (1 more HDD, 1 cd and dvd burner) ?

thanks

oh yeah, and does my power supply (true power 430) have the 12VATX connector for my abit NF7-s motherboard?

thanks for calming me down. I tend to get worried and anxious about things. I think I've had a little too much caffiene....it makes me feel anxious....
