Hey guys, so I have a very strange problem. I left my desktop running one night while I was partying, and when I got back it was turned off and wouldn't turn on again. Here are my specs:
Seasonic SS-430HB 430 Watt PSU
Biostar NF325-A7 Socket 754 Mobo
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Sapphire Radeon X1950GT AGP GPU
2x1GB G.Skill DDR 400 RAM
Auzentech Xplosion Soundcard
Asus DVD+-R Drive
WD Raptor 150GB HDD, Samsung Spinpoint 500GB HDD
I'm pretty sure the problem is with my Seasonic PSU, but when I plug it into another computer it works perfectly fine. Also, when I plug in the 2nd computer's Antec PSU into my desktop, everything powers on fine. This happens irregardless of whether I also power all the peripherals or just the motherboard power connections on both computers.
I noticed one thing - with my Antec PSU my desktop's motherboard indicator lights turn on brightly when the power cord is plugged in, and everything turns on normally. With my Seasonic PSU the motherboard indicator lights only light up dimly, and nothing else turns on when I push the power button. Also, the Seasonic website has a PDF explaining how to "jump-start" a PSU by using a paperclip to short a black and green wire in the motherboard connector, to make it power its own fan. I tried the jump-start and the Seasonic PSU does run it's own fan when I do this, although very weakly.
So basically it seems like every individual component works, except when my Seasonic PSU is paired with my Biostar motherboard. I'm about to file an RMA with Seasonic, but they will charge $25 if they determine nothing is wrong. Do you guys think there is definitely something wrong with my Seasonic PSU, or is there something more I can try?
